The Parliament Hill School project is the second largest school development scheme to be made in Camden Borough. Camden Council worked in partnership with the school to design the scheme and bid for Government funds. The council has also project managed the scheme and contributed £1.9m itself. Working closely with teachers to ensure that educational requirements were met, Haverstock Associates (project architects) designed two state-of-the-art buildings that sit well with those already on site and offer flexibility for the future.
PHASE 1 - Courtyard Building
The first stage of the revamp of the school started with the “ Courtyard Building” which has been designed to host multi-media teaching classrooms, including one of the country’s first purpose-built educational CAD-CAM rooms for computer modelling.
The new building is slightly serpentine, to mediate between the misalignment of the entrances to the two early- and mid- 20th century buildings.
The Profilit TM SP26 Clear glass panels installed on the external wall will enable maximum natural lighting into the classroom.
PHASE 2 - Corner Building
The second phase of the School scheme provided the “ Corner Building” which offers specialist teaching spaces for music, drama, media studies, dance and film.
This second building site has been a great challenge for Reglit. The design of the Corner Building consisted of a striking copper wall and glazed front, aimed at creating an impressive landmark that is visible from Highgate Road.
About eighty 7000mm high SP26 Clear Wired Sandblasted glass panels have been installed, incorporating a series of wind anchors, to ensure structural stability of the glazing system.
