GLASGOW CALEDONIAN UNIVERSITY

In 2002, Building Design Partnership (BDP) was appointed architect, lighting designer and acoustic consultant by Caledonian University for their 5 year redevelopment scheme of their campus in Glasgow.

THE SALTIRE CENTRE

The Saltire Centre was the largest new-built project to be commissioned by Caledonian University. This building has been designed as a new learning space to replace the outmoded library.

Located between existing buildings, the Saltire Centre had to integrate well with the existing landscape while being seen as a contemporary higher educational centre. It needed to be seen as a central and exciting building for the students with an emphasis on conversation areas.

As Reglit, we have been involved in creating the external glass envelope of the building. Working closely with BDP, Reglit supplied and installed a combination of different types of glass along the four levels of the South façade which can be seen from the busy Dobbie’s Loan.

The mixture of Profilit™ SP26 cast, SP26 clear, SP26 sandblasted and SP26 cast sandblasted coloured glass panels and of coloured lighting creates a powerful abstract image for the centre.
