IMPERIAL COLLEGE

Internal & External Installations

Sherfield Library, Imperial College London, has undergone two years of extensive renovation and modernisation. The versatility of the Pilkington ProfilitTM system is evident in this project as we are featured both internally and externally.

Internally a creative and flexible working space was created using Pilkington Profilit™ glass screens. Modern, semi-transparent think tank areas were formed, catering for individual, as well as, group study.

Externally Pilkington Profilit™ was used to create a bespoke louver-type system for the new service tower above the building entrance. Although not the normal use for the Pilkington ProfilitTM system, we adapted and customised it to coincide with the specified designs.

Specs

  • SP26 Cast Wired Sandblasted & SP26 Clear Wired glass panels installed internally as the transparency of the glass allows natural light to flow through the space freely yet still providing the much needed privacy for study areas.
  • SP2 Cast Wired Sandblasted Double-glazed glass used on the bespoke louvers
  • Customised top and bottom ‘shoe’ to hold glass into its angled position
