Flagship Eco-Store
DIY Superstore
B & Q’s ‘greenest’ store to date had a project value of £22.5 million and was completed at the beginning of 2009.
The intention of this development was to incorporate renewable energy sources into the creative design of this eco-friendly store, allowing it to emit 50% less carbon emissions than a traditional store of a similar size.
The most prominent feature of this sustainable urban superstore is the UK’s largest building-mounted turbine, the Reglit-clad wind-powered signage tower.
The tower is located adjacent to the A3 and rises to approximately twice the height of the rest of the development. Not only does it provide a clean energy source for the building but it acts as a landmark, not only for the DIY giants, but also for the surrounding area.
